This amazingly dense pitahayal of organ pipe cacti (Stenocereus thurberi) occurs only in a local area near Las Bocas, Sonora. The Mayo Indians harvest large quantities of the delicious fruit in summer. The habitat is threatened by agricultural development. Photos: Mark Dimmitt
